Airbus Begins Talks to Sell A220 Jets to Malaysia

Airbus has initiated discussions with airlines in Malaysia regarding the potential sale of A220 aircraft. Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia-Pacific, stated that while talks are still in the early stages, they anticipate strong demand for the A220 in Malaysia and hope the aircraft will soon join the country’s fleets. Malaysia currently ranks as Airbus’s third-largest market in the region, following China and India.

There are around 150 Airbus aircraft already operating in Malaysia, with approximately 400 more scheduled for delivery in the coming years. AirAsia, a major Airbus customer, operates a fleet of A320 and A330 aircraft, while Malaysia Airlines continues its operations with widebody Airbus jets. Airbus has not disclosed the names of the airlines involved in the ongoing talks.

Additionally, the company reported 192 aircraft deliveries in the first part of 2025, marking a 5% year-on-year decline. However, Airbus reaffirmed its commitment to reaching its target of 820 deliveries by the end of the year.
